We are at war with
the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb
from the swamp to the stars, and it has been said if we lose that war,
and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record
with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did
the least to prevent its happening.
--Ronald Reagan, 1964
The war against
Vietnam is only the ghastliest manifestation of what I'd call imperial
provincialism, which afflicts America's whole culture--aware only of its
own history, insensible to everything which isn't part of the local
atmosphere.

SQUAD BATTLES:
|
TOUR
OF DUTY |
a John Tiller Game |
|
HPS Simulations and John Tiller are proud to announce the release of
Tour of Duty, the follow-on game to Tiller's
Squad Battles: Vietnam. |
Those who served in Vietnam fought in a war without front lines, one
where action came quickly and unexpectedly. They fought in rice paddies, in the air, in the cities, and along the rivers of Vietnam. They came from
myriad backgrounds and nationalities, all wanting to serve their
country. Their combat experiences writ large a story; a story they would take with them,
and that would forever represent their Tour of Duty.

"Tour of Duty is another Wargame of the Year contender
from Tiller
...the definitive tactical Vietnam wargame"

--July 2002 Computer Gaming World Magazine
Tour of Duty is the second game in the Squad Battles Series and continues from the original game
Squad Battles
Vietnam. In addition to over 40 scenarios, Tour of Duty has a Campaign Game, the first in the
Squad Battles series to do so, which enables the player to assume the role of a leader and fight multiple battles over the course of a year in Vietnam. There are 5
campaigns, including American Army, Marine, Air Cavalry, Army Riverine, and
Australian forces.
|

Although it uses a common game engine, Tour of Duty is a complete game and independent of
Squad Battles Vietnam. Either can be installed and played without the other. However, PBEM and network games require that both players have the same game being played,
Vietnam or Tour of Duty, and scenario and battles are not
interchangeable between the games. |
Some of the critics
viewed Vietnam as a morality play in which the wicked must be punished
before the final curtain and where any attempt to salvage self-respect
from the outcome compounded the wrong. I viewed it as a genuine tragedy.
No one had a monopoly on anguish.
--Henry Kissinger |
Tour of Duty contains multiple enhancements to the
Squad Battles game engine including Caves and Tunnels, Smoke and Illumination, and several enhancements and new features not found in the original
Squad Battles Vietnam. |
Tour of Duty includes American Army, American Marine, South Vietnamese,
South Korean, Australian, North Vietnamese, and Viet Cong forces and
equipment. Scenarios cover a wide variety of situations many of which
include air and armored cavalry. |

No event in American
history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported
then, and it is misremembered now. --Richard M. Nixon |
