'Soldiers: This is the battle you have so much desired. The victory depends upon you! It is now necessary to us. It will give us abundance of good winter quarters, and a prompt return to our country. Behave as at Austerlitz, at Friedland, at Vitebsk, at Smolensk, and let the latest posterity recount with pride your conduct on this day; let them say of you, He was at the battle under the walls of Moscow. ' -Napoleon (address to the troops 7 Sep 1812) In the summer of 1812, Napoleon was arguably at the height of his power. He dominated most of Europe, and the denial of British trade through his 'Continental System' of closed ports would soon take down his implacable enemy England. Except there was one problem. A big one. His 'System' leaked through Russia. Badly. Determined to rectify this and bring Russia to heel, he assembled the aptly named 'Grande Armee' at the border, with over half a million men. He would smash the Russian Army, take Moscow and finally seal the leak. Except that the Russians didn't play by the rules in his book, and refused to give battle. They retreated at every turn, frustratingly staying just out of his reach. Month after month, as the summer slipped by. Until early September. Until they had their backs up against Moscow. Until they reached a place called... Borodino.

ME: Borodino is the fourth game in the Marching Eagles (ME) series, which offers players an easy to learn system and a straightforward interface. But even in its elegant simplicity, the game provides a thrill and challenge unmatched even to experienced players, along with a deep historical feel and experience. Covering the complete battle of Borodino, at the gates of Moscow in September 1812, the game also includes a number of 'sub-battles' and 'what if's'. Napoleon had fervently wished to fight the Russian Army from the day he invaded Russia, and it was here the wish was finally granted. He eventually won the bloody ground, but with the Russian Army remaining intact, he lost the campaign. The question is, could he have done better...

There They Go!

|
The Marching Eagles system is innovative, fun, and historically engaging. It can leave you on the edge of your seat, begging for just one more command point, or postponing that 'other thing' you need to do in real life for 'just one more turn'. And, with the scenario/OOB editor and effects of fate, no two games are the same. Plus, you can also come up with you own 'what-if's' and other variations. It's all up to you. But remember too that the enemy also gets a say in things. Always, it seems, leaving your Army just 'one move away' from victory. Command is hard Monseur General. Welcome... to Borodino.
