Large-scale involvement of the United States in the conflict in Vietnam was never a given. President John F. Kennedy was deeply hesitant about committing to a deteriorating situation, and before he was assassinated, seemed to be reconsidering entirely. His successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, wanted to stress a domestic agenda, but rapidly became controlled by the situation and political pressures. And though he tried desperately to limit the effect of the escalating war before long hundreds of thousands of US forces were on the ground.

First Stop: Da Nang
Combat Actions: VIETNAM tells some of their story. Based at a man-to-man Skirmish Level, players will be challenged with the brutal conditions of the terrain, as well as the limitations of their own force and the uncertainty of the enemy's locations and actions. To a grunt, no place is really a good place for a fight. But some places are definitely worse than others.

In Combat Actions: VIETNAM players assume command of a US infantry squad or platoon. Through a variety of missions, they will quickly learn to never feel comfortable going up against a determined enemy operating in their own element. But, with each success, they will also see how indispensable effective planning, good tactics, and luck are to ultimate success. No cowards need apply.

The game system is quick to learn and play, while the variable command system insures that scenarios are nail-bitingly suspenseful and different each time. With the actual units and weapons of the era, Combat Actions: VIETNAM adds 3-D graphics, sound and special effects to bring players into the jungles of Southeast Asia, but without the sweat, blisters, or Medivacs.
